Effi: Finnish police censors a critic of censorship
Under the provisions of a law passed in 2007, the Finnish central police (Keskusrikospoliisi) maintains a list of banned websites. This list is not public, and is supposed to be a list of websites that contain child pornography. This month, a new website joined the list: http://lapsiporno.info. The thing is, it isn't a child pornography website, but a website that contains text, discussing KRP's list and censorship in general.
The site is owned by a Finnish citizen in Finland. If it contains child pornography, that makes it a crime, so wouldn't the sensible thing to do be to arrest the site owner? But then again, talking about Internet censorship isn't a crime. Strangely, no-one is going to court, but access to the website is blocked.
Let me sum this up: the Finnish central criminal police has blocked access to a website that criticizes its censorship policy. What country is this?
The sad thing is that no-one cares, or will care. Child porn is the new witch-hunt; if you're fighting kiddie porn it doesn't matter who or what falls by the wayside.
