2008 playoffs: first round

The first round of the NHL playoffs is done, and I have to hold myself accountable and check my predictions.

This is what I picked:

East:

(1) Montréal vs (8) Boston: Montréal

(2) Pittsburgh vs (7) Ottawa: Ottawa

(3) Washington vs (6) Philadelphia: Philadelphia

(4) New Jersey vs (5) NY Rangers: New Jersey

That's a 50% success rate. I'd have done just as well guessing. I didn't count on Martin Brodeur being so exhausted, and the Senators being so awful.

West:

(1) Detroit vs (8) Nashville: Detroit

(2) San José vs (7) Calgary: San José

(3) Minnesota vs (6) Colorado: Colorado

(4) Anaheim vs (5) Dallas: Anaheim

3/4. I really didn't expect Anaheim to play that badly...

Overall, that's 5/8, which is just a little better than 50/50. I'll take it!

The conference semi-finals are the following:'

Montréal - Philadelphia
Pittsburgh - NY Rangers

Detroit - Colorado
San José - Dallas

I say Montréal and Rangers from the East, Detroit and San José from the West. The Stanley Cup final will be Detroit-Montréal, and the Habs will win it.

Allez les Habs!
