For the home side, I fielded my Shadowforge Nun Gridiron team, the Sisters of Shallya. Now that we were playing with the new rules, I dropped my second thrower and got two Halfling Hopefuls instead, from a Black Scorpion Miniatures halfling team I'm painting.

As the Lizardmen arrived in the Ostland port of Salkalten, home of the Sisters of Shallya, a light snow was falling. By kickoff, the weather had deteriorated into a full-blown blizzard. Oddly, this game marks the second appearance of a Lizardman team in the Turboleague, the first since the Tlaxtlan Warriors played in the 2012 season, and both games have been played in a snowstorm. Despite the weather, six thousand fans turned out to watch the game.
The Sisters won the opening coin toss and elected to kick, with both teams setting up in the driving snow.
The Sisters were a trifle overenthusiastic on the kick-off, and the ball vanished into the blizzard. As it fell back down, chameleon skink Cheezie had plenty of time to position themselves and catch the ball. Amidst the usual opening violence, the C U L8Rs developed quite a spirited offense, and in turn 2, Cheezie was making a run into the Sisters' half of the field.
The Sisters frantically regrouped, but by turn 3, Cheezie was nearly in the end zone!
At the last moment, Sister Veronica caught up with the scurrying Skink and knocked him over, dislodging the ball, which Sister Ona promptly grabbed.
The Sisters regrouped to run the ball up the field.
But the frighteningly speedy C U L8Rs were all over them in moments, even including Chonkers the Kroxigor, who had been quite happily fighting the Ogre Sister Louisa, but now rounded on the ball carrier, his Prehensile Tail ready to trip her up.
With her team-mates frantically pushing the Lizardmen aside, Sister Ona handed the ball off to Sister Riae, while Sister Amanda scored the season's first casualty by smashing Skink lineman Cool Ranch into the astrogranite.
Dodging frantically out of the Lizardmen's claws, the Sisters advanced. Even Sister Louisa got in on the act!
Once again, the C U L8Rs caught up with them, and as the battle for the ball raged, the Kroxigor Chonkers evened out the casualties behind the play by eliminating halfling hopeful Brother Mancomb.
As the clock ticked down, Sister Riae made it 1-0 Sisters with the first touchdown of the season.
There was just enough time for some random and inconclusive violence before halftime.

The second half also started with a high kick, giving Sisters thrower Sister Thérèse plenty of time to position herself to catch the ball.
The Sisters offense initially headed up the right sideline, while on the left, Sisters blitzer Sister Veronica knocked a hole in the Lizardman defense by sending Saurus Blocker SK8R G8R off as a casualty.
As the C U L8Rs swarmed to their left, Sister Veronica got open on the opposite side. Sister Thérèse made the season's first completed pass to get her the ball, and Sister Veronica ran in for the Sisters' second touchdown.
Down by two, the C U L8Rs rallied and advanced the ball on the left while a mêlée raged in midfield: Sisters blitzer Sister Raylin knocked out blocker W8R G8R, but Saurus Blocker H8R G8R evened the numbers by taking out halfling hopeful Brother Bucca for his team's second casualty.
The Chameleon Skink Cheezie easily dodged through the Sisters' clumsy tackling attempts, and scored the C U L8Rs' first touchdown.
The match concluded with more indecisive violence, leaving the final score at 2-1 Sisters and casualties an even 2-2. Lizardman teams are now 1-1-0 in blizzards in the Turboleague.

It was fun to play Blood Bowl again after quite a while! So far, the new rules feel very similar to the CRP rules I'm used to; I'm not sure I like all the changes, but nothing seems too terrible so far, and I do like that some of the teams have new player options. It was fun to have halflings on my Human team, even if they did both get taken out as casualties.
I'm going to see if I can persuade some other folks to play some games as well, so we could make a little season of it.
